Watercolor and sumi ink on paper. 7"Hx9". 2008.
These small paintings are the beginning of a new direction that I started at the Open Art Residency in Eretria, Greece in September 2008. Central is the large cloudlike smoke form against wallpaper patterns that call to mind childhood playrooms. I am working to figure out the relationship between nostagia for the creative energy of childhood in light of the realities posed by adulthood.
Ink, watercolor, gouache on paper. 60x60". 2008.
The body of work from 2005-08 are paintings that loosely map the experience of what happens when things are stirred up. I’m trying to capture the disturbing feeling of chaos as an underlying, organizing principle, so these pieces are attempts to hold disparate urges simultaneously and equally.
