My work explores themes of cultural identity, inclusion/exclusion, and the desire for, and respite from, constant connection. These ceramic sculptures use animal forms to reference aspects of my upbringing - Chinese painting iconography and Buddhist concepts about the "monkey mind," the incessant mental chattering that seems to surround us, as well as the pig, which is a crucial part of the Cuban diet and important in both cultures.
